I’ve been really into blended fruit bowls for breakfast lately. They can get sort of expensive if you’re buying them everyday so I decided to start making them on my own. It’s also a great snack any time you need a pick me up. If you’re not familiar with acai it’s antioxidant rich berry from the amazon, loaded with protein, and a host of omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids. A wonderful way to start your day.


What you need:
2 packets frozen acai puree (3.5oz)
1 banana frozen (cut in pieces)
1 handful of frozen mango
1 handful of frozen strawberries
1 handful of frozen blueberries
1/4 cup orange or apple juice
1/4 almond or rice milk
1 scoop protein powder (optional)

For the toppings:





Break apart the acai packets before you open them. You can let them set on the counter a few minutes to make this easier. Put the acai pieces, blueberries, mango, strawberries and banana into the blender. Pour in some juice, almond milk and protein powder (optional). Once you start blending you will be able to see how much liquid you need. Between blends you may have to open up the blender and move things around a bit and scrape the sides, push down the fruits, etc. You want to create a very thick consistency.


Just a little tip: I like to use frozen fruit so there is no need for ice. Some fruits will stick together if you put them in a bag at the same time. Also a frozen banana is not easy to cut. Just put your cut mango or banana pieces on a cookie sheet or plate and place in the freezer for about an hour, then place in bags. No sticking together!

This makes 2 large bowls so if you are making just for yourself use one acai packet and half the fruits and liquids.


You can put whatever toppings you like- I always cut up bananas, fresh fruit and usually add coconut shreds, almond slices and bee pollen.
