If you follow me on instagram you probably know I was in Tulum last month working on something special and I can finally tell you what it is! I was creative directing, art directing, styling, and also of course starring in Candie’s latest campaign. Candie’s, to me is an iconic American brand who’s past campaigns have starred everyone from Britney Spears to Fergie and Lea Michele- so to be alongside those superstar names is so flattering in itself. They are known for their high profile campaigns and this is the first time they’ve used a fashion/social media influencer so I’m very honored.
At this point in my career I choose to only take on projects where I can be the creative because that is what I love to do (and also what I’m good at). Candie’s was such an amazing brand partner, they trusted me to have full creative control and execute my vision to make this campaign come to life. Tulum was the perfect setting as I wanted the photos to tell a story of travel and culture all while maintaining the brands fun and flirty aesthetic. The campaign was also shot by my brother Matt Petran so for us to work together on such a big project was a brother-sister dream come true.
It wasn’t easy… long days on hot humid beaches with unstoppable wind, sudden rainstorms and a small city with limited electricity made for quite the adventure! But in the end I think the images came out so beautiful. My vision was to show the collection in an easy, effortless but still flirty way. To show the collection in real life and in motion. I hope you love it!
I also added in a bunch of behind the scenes pics for anyone looking to visit Tulum. It’s absolutely magical and if you are planning a trip, here’s some of my favs:
Lunch- Posada Margarita- a shabby chic picturesque dream on the beach with the best Italian food in the city. Fresh fish in lemon and olive oil paired with a huge mason jar of fresh squeezed green juice. My kind of place!
Where to stay: Ahau Tulum- my favorite hotel in Tulum. Private palapa huts literally on the sand, no shoes recommended ever and the staff becomes a second family. Fresh coconuts in the morning and smoothies on the beach. You have to book early because there’s only about 15 huts.
Secret local spot: Kanlum Lagoon– unbelievable turquoise crystal clear lagoon where you won’t find any tourists… until now that I’ve given this secret spot away. A beautiful place to relax and swim away from the waves.
