Tricks on packing for multiple climates and how to decide which bags to bring when your space is limited.
In a career of constant traveling I go from summer to winter A LOT, and fast. Especially from California and it’s endless summers, to freezing cold New York, tropical Miami, unpredictable European rainstorms and back- sometimes even multiple times a month. My suitcase needs to be prepared for all climates and with limited space packing becomes quite difficult.
Pieces that can be layered (and unlayered!) are key.
Case in point this black jumper (which I wear a lot and can be worn so many ways.) By itself with sandals it’s perfect for summer nights, a nice dinner in California, a warm nighttime event in Miami. Finding it in my suitcase in colder climates has made me come up with all sorts of ideas.
One of my favorites- wearing a knitted sweater underneath sort of “overalls” style. Perfect for the colder nights in Los Angeles. And then just layering up from there depending where you are. Add booties and a long coat and a scarf and you can pretty much go anywhere.
Another packing dilemma- which bags to bring. Ah the bane of my existence! I like to switch my bag all the time, from colors to shapes to styles, but when you’re only working with one suitcase bringing extra purses along takes up the space really fast and just isn’t practical. So you have to choose something that will work with any outfit you have. Case in point this Mezzi bag
– obviously black is a smart choice, but also it’s sleek, simple, structure works with nearly every kind of look.
More and more I find myself drawn to pieces that are versatile rather than just trend pieces. Things I will get a lot of use out of and can pair with many different things.
